In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is the most widely used assisted reproduction technique, achieving much higher pregnancy rates than other techniques such as artificial insemination. This technique allows the fertilisation of eggs by sperm outside the uterus, in the laboratory, where the embryos resulting from the insemination are transferred to the mother’s uterus to favour their implantation and establish gestation.
Every patient is unique. At VITA we tailor IVF treatment to the patient’s needs.
In Vitro Fertilisation with the partner’s sperm
In vitro fertilisation with the partner’s sperm, the main treatment for infertility, with much higher pregnancy rates than techniques such as artificial insemination. A treatment indicated for couples where the woman has ovulation problems, endometriosis, blocked fallopian tubes, or couples who have failed with artificial insemination.
In Vitro Fertilisation with a sperm donor
In vitro fertilisation with anonymous donor sperm, a treatment indicated for couples with difficulties in achieving pregnancy and where the man has a fertility problem related to poor sperm quality, is a carrier of a genetic disease, or for women without a male partner or homosexual female couples.
Conventional IVF or ICSI?
In conventional IVF, capacitated sperm are placed in contact with the retrieved eggs in a laboratory dish, waiting for one of them to fertilise the egg in an autonomous and natural way.
Habitually, IVF with ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection), a laboratory technique that consists of introducing a single selected spermatozoon into an egg to facilitate fertilisation, is usually used. This technique has been a great advance in the treatment of male sterility problems. A single spermatozoon is required per egg, selected mainly for its morphological characteristics, although in some cases methods such as MACS (Magnetic-Activated Cell Sorting) can be used, which allows eliminating from the ejaculate those spermatozoa that are destined to die and could not fertilise the egg
